Indie Movie Reviews for Predators

Without fail, the PREDATOR films have all followed the same formula: isolated heroes try to avoid being the victims in an elaborate hunting expedition involving a group of vicious Predator aliens, This time, Adrien Brody leads an unsuspecting band through the jungles of an alien planet while being hunted by Predators and their alien dogs.

The script is laughably weak, liberally quoting from several well-known genre films almost word-for-word. The cast is serviceable, with Brody coming off best in a unique twist on his persona. The direction is average, as are the special effects. There is nothing here that hasn’t been done many times over in this series, as well as other films.

Ultimately, the only thing PREDATORS fails to catch is the most elusive prey of all: inspiration.

Indie Movie Reviews: The Killer Inside Me

Based on the novel by Jim Thompson, the film stars Casey Affleck as a deputy sheriff with a slight psychotic streak. He’s responsible for a series of brutal murders, which the film depicts in almost fetishistic glory.

The script is ludicrous, unable to make any sense out of why the law never latches onto Affleck’s sociopathic killer. Although gorgeously lensed, the film is cold and impersonal to the point of tedium. Frankly, the film is a bore except for the shockingly-violent brutalization of women. Even worse, the film’s tone vacillates between comical and horrific, making the viewing uneven and jarring.

THE KILLER INSIDE ME is a high-reaching failure.
